Editing: Anastasia Kouli. Supervision: Dimitra Koukiou. Translation: John Carr, Filippos Mazarakis-Ainian. Printing: Pressious Arvanitides. Athens, 2025, p. 192. (greek-english)

The National Historical Museum (NHM) presents its 2025 diary, dedicated to the Cephalonian painter and architect Gerassimo Pizzamano (1787–1825).
He was the first professor of civil architecture in modern Greece, a beloved portraitist, and a pioneer of secular engraving in the Ionian Islands. The bilingual (Greek-English) calendar features travel-themed works selected from his album, showcasing watercolors of exceptional artistic value. These artworks capture people and landscapes from the Ionian Islands and, more importantly, depict a rich tapestry of individuals from various social classes, genders, and religions in Athens and Constantinople of the Ottoman Empire in 1818.
Each month is accompanied by curated excerpts—presented in Greek and English—from Pizzamano's surviving texts on architecture and the Ottoman Empire, whose foundations were already trembling on the eve of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
